Everyone in the HVAC industry has felt the effect of the labor shortage. More than ever before, people with little or no HVAC experience are being hired by local dealers.
This training program has been developed to help you prepare new employees for their HVAC careers. This is great for any new employee, whether they are service techs or office personnel, and will give them the basic knowledge they need in their HVAC careers.
Lesson 1 - Split System Overview
The course objectives for this lesson will be to explain how comfort is achieved through HVAC, differentiate the operation of an AC unit versus a heat pump unit, and identify key components in the condensing unit.
Lesson 2 – Air Handlers & Furnaces
In this lesson, we'll explain the roles an air handler and furnace play in a split system, we will differentiate the way an air handler heats a home versus the way a furnace heats a home, we'll explore dual fuel heating options, and identify key safety features of a furnace.
Lesson 3 – Package Units
In this lesson, we'll explain how a package unit differs from a split system, we'll explore the ways a heat pump package unit differs from a gas package unit, and we'll list the core components of a package system.
Lesson 4 – Geothermal, Ductless & Boilers
In this lesson, we'll explore how geothermal design is different than traditional systems, we'll list the major components of a ductless system, and we'll identify distinctive ways hydronics systems heat a home.
Lesson 5 – IAQ & Comfort Controls
In this lesson, we'll explain why indoor air quality is such a big part of HVAC, we'll differentiate the roles of humidification, dehumidification and air purifiers, and we'll will also explore the role of modern comfort controls.
Lesson 6 – System Efficiency Overview
In this lesson, we'll identify the current efficiency zones in the United States, we'll explain key efficiency terminology and abbreviations, and we'll explore the benefits an advance system can offer.
Lesson 7 – Basic System Design – Part 1
In this lesson, we'll explore the impact of poor system design, explain the role of load calculations in HVAC, and identify common areas of heat loss and heat gain.
Lesson 8 – Basic System Design – Part 2
In this lesson, we'll explore how BTU's are calculated in HVAC, we'll explain why duct design is so crucial to system performance, and we'll help you to identify the components that make zoning possible.
Lesson 9 – Resources
In this lesson, we'll explain the role of AHRI certification in HVAC, we'll explore available distributor and manufacturer resources and tools, and identify product nomenclature and the key information it contains.
